Real-world profile
Beyond the blocks,
what bird is this?
Kiwis are a group of flightless birds endemic to New Zealand, belonging to the genus Apteryx. They have greatly reduced wings, fluffy, hair-like feathers and nostrils near the tip of their long bills.
Most kiwis are active at night. Their well-developed senses of smell and touch help them find invertebrates in the soil. Conservation status varies among kiwi species.
