Feeding in separate sessions
Hold a clean food from the list below and right-click. Each portion adds 15-25 trust points; taming occurs at 100. Starting from zero, with no decay or attacks in between, it takes 4-7 successful feedings. Wait while it eats. Repeated right-clicks during eating do not consume more food.
Trust is tracked separately for each player. While the bird is wild, trust slowly decreases over time. Being hurt by a player removes 60 trust points for that player. Successful taming automatically switches it to Follow mode and triggers a celebration animation.
Companion commands
Once tamed, the owner can sneak and right-click with an empty hand to cycle through Free, Follow, Stay and Return to Nest. The current mode appears on screen. Servers can disable this feature. A bird may still prioritize escaping danger.
Watching, crest displays and mimicry
It likes perching in the canopy or on high logs, tilts its head to watch players and raises its crest when excited. It inspects nearby chests, barrels, crafting tables and jukeboxes, but does not automatically take anything from containers. It also mimics other birds' calls.
Short calls and longer phrases
There are seven short calls and four longer phrases. Ambient vocalizations have an 85% chance of combining 3–6 clips; otherwise, a single clip plays. Feeding interactions use a sequence, and adjacent clips never repeat.
Each sequence includes both short calls and longer phrases, with variations in pitch and pauses. Feeding again during a call does not start an overlapping sequence. Falling asleep cancels the remaining clips.
Nine more calls
After becoming a companion
Once familiar with its owner, it can perch on their shoulder or head.
Food list
Wheat seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds, beetroot seeds, torchflower seeds, pitcher pods, melon slices, sweet berries, glow berries and apples.
Forge crop and nut tags provided by other mods are also supported. The exact foods depend on which mods are installed.
These are the food tags in the current local build. Items contaminated with bird droppings are not treated as normal food for feeding.
